Understanding the microbiological activity in water is one of the most important water monitoring considerations to ensure maintenance of adequate water quality standards. Microbiological contamination is still being evaluated manually and it has not been suitable for automation, online monitoring and process control. However, rapid automated (online) measurement has not been available - until now.
VWM's ColiMinder® products are fast, ultrasensitive and fully automated measurement systems that can detect microbial organisms in water. The technology is extremely robust, directly linked to living organisms and suitable for all applications. The ColiMinder® units are suitable for long-term monitoring of bio-contaminated water samples. The units can be deployed in applications subject to tough environmental conditions. It is based on the measurement of specific enzymatic activity in target organisms present in samples using an optimised biochemical protocol and patented fluorescence photometric techniques. Enzymatic activity is scientifically defined exactly.

The enzymatic approach directly measures the specific enzymatic activity present in the sample. The measured enzymatic activity per sample volume is used as a measure of the contamination.
The ColiMinder® CMI-02 is a standard industrial device suitable for the long-term monitoring of bio-contaminated water samples to use in applications subject to tough environmental conditions (IP65, powder-coated aluminium housing).
The ColiMinder® CMI-02-LE is a low-energy version of the Industrial ColiMinder® CMI-02. It can be powered by 12V batteries, 100/240V to 12V ACDC power supply or by car electrical system. The ColiMinder® CMI-02-LE serves in areas with reduced power supply for long-term monitoring of bio-contaminated water samples.
The ColiMinder® CMI-02-ERU (Emergency Response Unit) provides the capability to measure microbiological contamination on the road taking sample from different sources or locations. With the ColiMinder CMI-02-LE serving as base, the ERU is assembled on a rack and dedicated for mobile use or as a driving lab, e.g. in cars or on a boat.

The devices are calibrated for scientifically defined enzymatic activity values for every given target organism like E-Coli, Enterococcus or Total Activity and include the corresponding amount of cleaning solutions.
The kit for E-Coli is the Beta-D-Glucuronidase Activity Assay Kit. E-Coli Reagent Kit is developed to measure contamination in fresh water (RK-EC) or saline water (RK-EC-SW). Each kit contains Reagents and Washing Solution, sufficient for 250, 500 or 1000 measurements.
The kit used for Enterococci (Glu) is the Beta-D-Glucosidase Activity Assay Kit. Enterococci Reagent Kit is developed to measure enterococcal contamination in fresh water (RK-EN) or saline water (RK-EN-SW). Each kit contains Reagents and Washing Solution, sufficient for 250, 500 or 1000 measurements.
The kit used for total activity (ALP) is the Alkaline Phosphatase Activity Assay Kit. Total Activity Reagent Kit is developed to measure total microbial contamination in fresh water (RK-TA). Each kit contains Reagents and Washing Solution, sufficient for 250, 500 or 1000 measurements.
Connectivity is a standout feature for the ColiMinder® products. All products can store all measurement data locally, while still enabling the ability to view and store data in many other ways. Data transfer and visualization is available as:
All functions and programming can be performed through remote control (internet or network connection required). The ColiMinder® products are able to control ISCO 6700 auto samplers, which also can be controlled remotely through ColiMinder® remote control.
Surface Water Monitoring, Drinking Water Monitoring, Flocculation Process Monitoring, Filtration Process Monitoring, Waste Water Treatment Plants Discharge Monitoring, Fruit Washing Water Monitoring, Surface and Bathing Water Monitoring, Mineral Water Bottling Monitoring, Monitoring of Raw Water Intakes and Membrane Integrity Monitoring.
